When it comes to making money, few financial institutions rake in more cash than the cosmetics industry.
In fact, Americans spend an average of $40 billion a year on makeup and skincare products. Thousands of people out there (ladies and gents alike) will stop at nothing when it comes to looking and feeling a little more fabulous.
One trend that’s really taken the industry by storm is Korean skincare. Over the past few months, Korean brands that Americans once had to search high and low for on Amazon have started popping up in major retailers like Ulta and Sephora. Cosmetic lotions and potions by a company called TonyMoly are quickly becoming cult favorites, and that probably has something to do with the fact that their products contain ingredients that aren’t often included in skincare items that are made in the U.S.
TonyMoly makes a line of products that contains helix aspersa muller glycoconjugates, otherwise known as snail slime. While it’s a little unconventional, the company claims that the compounds found in this mucus can help smooth out wrinkles and fine lines while preventing further damage to the skin.
And since Korean skincare brands started using snail slime, others have followed suit. Although it’s a fairly new addition to contemporary cosmetics, ancient Greeks actually used this slime to fight inflammation.

The fact of the matter is that this isn’t the first bizarre element to find its way into anti-wrinkle creams. If you go through your stash right now, you’ll probably notice that even some drugstore brands add things like urea and placental protein to their formulas.
