EMILY’s List hysteria: The GOP is ‘coming for our women’

http://twitter.com/#!/TeriChristoph/status/219587685050888193

Shorter EMILY’s List: Hide yo’ kids, hide yo’ wimmenz.

Apparently, the knuckle-dragging GOP is a-comin’, ready to knock womenfolk over the heads and drag them off caveman-style. Or something.

EMILY's List email: This could be our last chance to brace ourselves for the GOP's attacks. We know they're coming for us and for our women.

— Teri Christoph (@TeriChristoph) July 2, 2012

Hey, isn’t “our women” kinda paternalistic language? Progressive feminist fail.

Stay classy Emily's List: "… brace ourselves for the Republicans' attacks. We know they're coming for us and for our women."

— Stan Olshefski (@StanOlshefski) June 30, 2012

Unless, of course, they’re those icky unborn girls. The pro-abortion PAC isn’t too interested in what happens to those women.

Yes, save the women! But not the unborn ones, of course. RT @KatiePavlich . @terichristoph God forbid we save the children

— Teri Christoph (@TeriChristoph) July 2, 2012

So what exactly do Republicans plan to do with the progressive women they’re “coming for”?

They're coming for us and our women?? It's like the Sabines all over again!! Or "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"!! Run, ladies, run.

— Teri Christoph (@TeriChristoph) July 2, 2012

Just take any one you want. RT @mVespa1 i didn't get the memo to take "their women"…i feel left out

— Teri Christoph (@TeriChristoph) July 2, 2012

@TeriChristoph fantastic! the free market in action here

— Matt Vespa (@mVespa1) July 2, 2012

We could do a remake of "7 Brides for 7 Brothers" w GOP men storming #OWS rallies and hiding the womyn in the mountains til the Spring thaw.

— Teri Christoph (@TeriChristoph) July 2, 2012

Shudder. We’re pretty sure we could go a lifetime without forcing Occupiers into the kitchen to make us sammiches.

ShePAC co-chair Teri Christoph nails what’s going on here.

Shorter EMILY's List: The manufactured #waronwomen is a failure and we're desperate for another fundraising gimmick.

— Teri Christoph (@TeriChristoph) July 2, 2012

Bingo. This latest over-the-top War on Women scaremongering is designed to reignite the hysteria that helps keep EMILY’s List flush with cash for pro-abortion candidates.

And c’mon, what would conservatives do with a gaggle of “their women”? Unless we’re in the market for up-twinkling drum circle leaders, we’ll take a pass.

UPDATE:

Via Teri Christoph, the full text of the EMILY’s List fundraising email:

Dear Friend,

This could be our last chance to brace ourselves for the Republicans’ attacks. We know they’re coming for us and for our women.

Our most basic rights are at stake in this election, and we’re up against the most critical fundraising deadline of the year. We’ve got $26,400 left to raise before tonight’s deadline.

We can’t wait any longer. It’s time to step up and join the fight. Contribute $10 to EMILY’s List today by 11:59 PM so that we can fight the coming Republican attacks on our rights!

Thank you for standing strong with us. This Election Day will be historic for women and our rights.

All the best,

Amy K. Dacey
Executive Director

Dear Amy,

$1 billion. That’s not a prediction — that’s a promise.

Republican super PACs and outside spending groups, led by Karl Rove, are planning to spend $1 billion on the 2012 campaign — mostly on smears and lies financed by secret donors.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d be panicked.

But I DO know better — because I know EMILY’s List. We may not be able to match what they spend dollar for dollar, but if we dig deep, we can raise enough to help our women compete. The right can outspend us, but they’ll never outwork us, and they’ll never outsmart us!

EMILY’s List can make 2012 another Year of the Woman — but we need your help to reach our goal of $64,000 by tomorrow, June 30, and defeat the Republicans who want to take away our freedoms. Click here to contribute to EMILY’s List now.

We’ve seen what these right-wing ideologues are capable of. Rolling back reproductive rights. Attempting to eliminate coverage for birth control. Voting down equal pay. Threatening to decimate Social Security and end Medicare as we know it.

But the women you’ve elected through EMILY’s List are standing up and fighting back. Like Reps. Mazie Hirono of Hawai’i and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, who have repeatedly gone to the mat to protect women’s health in the House. This time next year, Mazie and Tammy could both be part of our Senate firewall — along with endangered incumbents like Debbie Stabenow and Claire McCaskill — if we come together today to help them overcome intense GOP spending and win tough races.

On the House side, Democrats need to win just 25 seats to take back control, and EMILY’s List is backing a slate of bright young candidates to do it — women like Tulsi Gabbard of Hawai’i, Grace Meng of New York, Kelda Roys of Wisconsin, and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona. All four of these House candidates are 36 years old or younger — and all promise to shake things up if they get to Washington.

We’ve got our work cut out for us. But we’ve also got the 1.5 million-member-strong EMILY’s List community ready to do what it takes to win. I’m counting on you to step forward right now with as generous a gift as you can give and help us reach our $64,000 goal by tomorrow, June 30. Click here to contribute to EMILY’s List right now.

Our record over the last 27 years is great — but we can do better. Thank you for helping us make 2012 the Year of the Woman all over again.

Warmest regards,

Ellen R. Malcolm
Chair and Founder
