I don’t know about you, but I’m still not over the Mad Queen Cersei Lannister blowing up hundreds of people in the Great Sept of Baelor with wildfire.
That scene from the season six finale of “Game of Thrones” will be burned — pun intended — into my mind for years to come. Recently, I took another look at HBO’s “Inside the Episode” for “The Winds of Winter,” and I realized a detail of great importance.
During his explanation of the season six finale, “Game of Thrones” executive producer and writer DB Weiss dropped an interesting little tidbit about that epic wildfire scene at the beginning of the episode.
Weiss talked about how there have been numerous references to wildfire since the show first began, and both producers and fans alike have been waiting for the moment when everything would go boom.
However, Weiss also revealed the inspiration behind Cersei’s epic torching in King’s Landing probably came from a conversation she had with Lady Olenna Tyrell back in episode seven of season six, “The Broken Man.”
Weiss says,
Everything that Olenna [Tyrell] says about Cersei earlier in the season is true, that she’s got no more friends left. She’s got no more power left. Olenna asks her, point blank, ‘are you going to kill everyone yourself?’
It’s possible that she puts an idea in Cersei’s head.
Possible? Homie, you’re the executive producer! You make the show!
