GB Swimmer Smashes World Record On First Day Of Olympics

Team GB swimmerAdam Peaty smashed his own world record yesterday, swimming 100 metres (breaststroke) in 57.55 seconds.

He set the record last year, swimming the same distance in 57.92 seconds, and he claims that he was able to beat it this timethanks to the “adrenaline rush” he got from walking into Rio’s aquatic centre.

Speaking to the Financial Times, he said:

“As soon as I walked in, it was either fight or flight and I chose to actually get something out of it. You can either be shy of the arena or take advantage of it.”

Winning his heat, he easily qualified for tomorrow’s final, where he will be hoping to win Gold.

If he succeeds, he will be GB’s first male swimming champion in 28 years.

CyclistsChris Froome and Geraint Thomas competed in the men’s road race yesterday, but both missed out on medals.
