Cory Booker’s communications director thrown under bus for Booker’s Bain comments?

http://twitter.com/#!/AntDeRosa/status/207505933721550850

Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s communication director resigned today. And Twitter smells something fishy. Her resignation comes in the wake of Mayor Booker’s Meet the Press appearance wherein he called the Presiden’ts attacks on Bain Capital “crap” and “nauseating.” Boy, did he step in it! Stepping out of Leftist formation is punishable and Mayor Booker swiftly made a hostage-style video to “clarify.” Dare to think for oneself? Does not suit. Mayor Booker made the horrible mistake of being honest.

#TheTruthHurts RT @MelissaTweets: So @CoryBooker press secretary resigns after Cory Booker told the truth? Ugh.

Seems like Anna Torres is being made a scapegoat for Cory Booker's MTP comments. http://t.co/NFoHb7ON

— PragmaticObotsUnite (@PragObots) May 29, 2012

Yep.

Backpedaling fails, as Anne Torres takes to Twitter to deny that her resignation had anything to do with the Meet the Press appearance and subsequent hostage video.

The rumors are ridiculous..it's not about MTP..come on folks.

The timing, however, is suspect.

If truly unrelated to appearance, why announce now? MT @AliahPR Comms Dir resigns in wake of Booker's Meet the Press http://t.co/O4GVjV6o

Cory Booker's press director is stepping down, days after Booker criticized the Obama campaign. http://t.co/GXxO4E3F

Convenient. More from The Wall Street Journal:

Torres said she was involved in helping the mayor prepare for the “Meet the Press” appearance and wouldn’t say if she was also tasked to aid in the YouTube response.

A Newark native, Torres was tapped as Newark’s communications director in 2010 after serving previously as Booker’s chief of staff and an executive assistant to the mayor.

But his Meet the Press appearance had nothing to do with it, huh? Move along, nothing to see here.

Whoa! @CoryBooker spokeswoman @AnneMTorres resigned today reportedly for his @meetthepress remarks http://t.co/Z5uTkrTh

.@AnneMTorres was a branding/comms expert, 5yr. Booker vet and victim of politics. But if you're in the market for a communication person 🙂

Politico has the following statements from Ms. Torres:

UPDATE: The Mayor’s office sends out the following statement from Torres:

Effective today, I am resigning from my position as Communications Director.  It has been a pleasure to serve in this Administration for six years, and as a Newarker, there is no greater reward than to work for the city that you love.  I’ve had the opportunity to work with an amazing team, and wish the Mayor the best.

Torres did not return a request for further comment.

UPDATE 2: Torres tells the Newark Star Ledger that she resigned because of “different views”:

“I just decided it is best if I pursued other opportunities,” Torres said by phone. “We have very different views on how communications should be run.”

If it wasn’t for the Meet the Press appearance itself, then it was the subsequent hostage video, television appearances and the slew of late-night tweets apologizing over and over.

Booker’s week in the limelight finally ended on Thursday with a series of late-night tweets in which he apologized for his “mistake.”

Twitter isn’t buying that there is no connection whatsoever.

I hope she's resigning because her boss caved to DNC pressure. http://t.co/WftCbyJb

Cory Booker fired his communications director? The same one that helped make a Newark mayor a national figure?

— Rory Cooper (@rorycooper) May 29, 2012

That doesn’t matter! CrimeThink trumps all. Dare to disagree withe The One? Someone has to be the fall guy. This time, a fall woman. War on women much, Democrats?
