The Game Of Thrones Plot Seriously Upped Its Game Last Night

Warning: this article contains spoilers from last night’s episode of Game of Thrones. If you haven’t watched it yet, and don’t want to know what happened, then leave now.

Okay. Now that that’s out of the way, onto Oathbreaker, which gave us a pretty good idea of where this season is going in terms of plot…The first two episodes of season 6 have been, at times, a little bit slow, but there was plenty to enjoy in the most recent episode, with the paceincreasingsignificantly.

Jon Snow is probably Lyanna Stark’s son.

In perhaps the most frustrating scene fromlast night’s episode, we saw the young Ned Stark reach the Tower of Joy, battle some pretty competent guards, and then head towards the Tower to find his sister Lyanna. Then, the buzz-kill that he is, the Three Eyed Raven decided that that was enough for one day, and whisked Bran back to the present.

Two interestingthings happened, however, before they left. First, Bran called out to Ned and it seems that Ned heard him. While this will probably turn out to be hugely significant (if Bran can interact with the past, he’ll probably end up being able to change it – or something like that), for now, we’ll focus on the other telling moment.

It sounded very much like that there was a woman in labour up in that tower. And if there was, and if that woman was Lyanna, then it’s looking increasingly likely that the whole, Jon Snow is the child ofRhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark theory, is correct.

Of course, the showrunners will probably let us believe this, before pulling the rug out from under us at the last moment…

Is the Hound still alive?

Forgetting about Bran for now, and heading over to Braavos, where Arya Stark – sorry A Girl – just got her eyes back, and we got a hint about a fan favourite maybe still being alive. Not Jon Snow, but the Hound, who was left for dead at the end of season four.

Discussing her kill list with the Waif, Arya admitted that while The Hound used to be on it ( and that she had left him to die), she both “did and she did not” want him dead.

While on any other show, we’d take this as nothing more than a characterreminiscing about an old friend, we can’t help but think that on Game of Thrones, it’s a hint that The Hound is comingback. We didn’t actually see him die which, on a show that loves a gory, dramatic death (Joffrey, Oberyn Martell, most of the Starks), isa surprise…

Maybe The Hound will bring Arya back to Braavos – after persuading her to stop referring to herself as A Girl, or No One – and the two of them will finish off The Mountain and Cersei…

Rickon Stark is back!

The youngest Stark is back, but is he back for good? Given the position he’s in right now – brought captive to Winterfell, where Ramsay Bolton is reigning supreme – we’re not so sure.. With Bran pretty muchpresumed dead, Rickon is the rightful heir to Winterfell, andfor fear thatthe other Northern houses will rally to him, we doubt that Ramsay is going to want him to stick around…

Is all lost though? We’re not so sure.. The Umbers were historically loyal to the Starks, and they’ve protected Rickon this long… Maybe bringing him “captive” to Winterfell is a ruse, and they’re going to try and murder Ramsay together.

It’s a stretch, but stranger things have happened…

Tommen is the world’s weakest leader..

Aside from the Starks, we got an idea of how things are going to progress in King’s Landing. With Cersei and Jaime – along with the monstrous Mountain – declaring proverbial war on the High Sparrow, their son Tommen seems to be making friends with (definition: being manipulated by) him.

Yes, the current King of Westeros demanded that Cersei be allowed to see the final resting place of Myrcella – not a huge ask – only to be persuaded (in the space of about 30 seconds) that this was a bad idea, and that he should accept the helpof the High Sparrow.

Seriously, that boy needs to grow a backbone..

Jon Snow’s watch has ended..

He’s risen from the dead, but he doesn’t seem to be that happy about it. After executing the four men that murdered him, Jon Snow handed his iconic cloak over to Edd, and left Castle Black.. Where he’s planning on going, we don’t know. What will happen when Sansa and Brienne arrive looking for him, we can only speculate. For now…

Roll on next week.
