1. Chastened
September 18, 2011. This picture was taken during a TV interview in which Strauss-Kahn called what happened between him and hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo as “a moral failing” on his part. She described it as attempted rape.
2. Pissed
September 28, 2011. Strauss-Kahn arrives back in Paris — after charges of assaulting hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo were dropped, he was allowed to leave the US.
4. Leery
Oct. 16, 2011. Three days prior, French prosecutors had dropped charges that he had attempted to rape writer Tristiane Banon in 2003. They did find evidence to support the lesser charge of sexual assault, but the statute of limitations on that charge had already run out.
5. Bemused
December 19, 2011. Strauss-Kahn speaks at an economic forum in Beijing. In November, he’d sued several French media outlets for linking him to a prostitution ring that included underage prostitutes (though there was no suggestion he had personally paid underage girls for sex). In March, French authorities would begin formally investigating him on charges of “aggravated pimping.” He admitted to attending sex parties, but said he didn’t know the women there were prostitutes.
7. Pleased as punch
April 4, 2012. Here he poses with students at the Diplomatic Academy in Kiev, Ukraine, after a lecture on the world economy. Days earlier, French authorities had begun officially investigating allegations that he was involved in a prostitution ring.
12. Relaxed
April 22, 2012. Strauss-Kahn leaves his polling place after voting in the first round of France’s presidential election. Before he was accused of sexual assault, many had thought he’d be a frontrunner in this election.
