1. The Best of 2011
In 2011, Wendy’s Asiago Spicy Chicken Sandwich made a ‘slapping’ impression; Pepsi Max (with zero calories) made its ‘manly” appeal; Career Builder explored the opportunity to not work for the monkeys of the world, etc. it was a good year for ads, considering the economy was still in the tubes, people were largely unemployed and filing for bankruptcy or foreclosure. It shows America’s resilience to push on and venture out.
2. The Best of 2012
The Super Bowl is definitely better seen live. Hopefully there are some of us who have been able to get affordable Super Bowl Tickets to watch the Seahawks play the Broncos on February 2nd. But if not, fret not…you can watch the game in HD.
2012 was a year of some great commercials. From the (then new) Samsung Galaxy Note (which comically plays “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”, by The Darkness) to an elaborate and quirky ad for the Acura NSX (featuring Jerry Seinfeld alongside Jared Leto), 2012 was in an inventive year for mainstream advertising.
3. The Best of 2013
A goat eating continuous bags of Doritos; old people living it up at Taco Bell (“We Are Young” song parody); the latest of the popular Budweiser Clydesdale, etc.— it all added to the fun of Super Bowl XLVII, when the Ravens played the 49ers in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
It’s hard to say what we’ll find this Feb. 2nd. There’s already leaks that there will be a Full House cast reunion in one of the commercials; and there will undoubtedly be other surprises in store for us. From 2014’s new line ups of cars, phones, TVs and more— we’ll see what’s coming in just a few short days.
