In the wake of one shooter slaughtering 49 victims at a gay nightclub in Orlando,The Walt Disney Co. will donate $1 million tothe OneOrlando Fundto support those affected by the tragedy. In addition to its large donation, the company announced they’d be matching employees’ donations dollar for dollar.
The chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Bob Chapek, said in a press release,
We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act. With 74,000 cast members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.
After announcing the fund during a vigil on Monday night, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer reached out to Disney via Twitter and thanked them for their donation.
