Facebook Prompts Users to Share Halloween Memories

Happy Halloween, everyone! Facebook decided to get into the trick or treat spirit by prompting users to share various Halloween-related information as part of their status updates.

Instead of the usual “What on your mind?” prompt text in the status update bar, Facebook is prompting some users to share their favorite Halloween memories, talk about their best Halloween costume or share their favorite scary movies.

We’re not sure if Facebook was just testing these sort of event-related prompts — because they’ve since disappeared from a number of Mashable reporters’ accounts. We’ve contacted Facebook for clarification on the prompts or information on whether this sort of thing will become more common in the future.

I think asking users to share certain event-related memories or updates is a smart move on Facebook’s part. These kinds of open-ended prompts can spark larger discussions on the site that might not necessarily occur otherwise.

For instance, my status update on my favorite scary movies prompted a larger discussion with my friends and subscribers.

Good times! What do you think about Facebook testing more editorialized status prompts? Let us know in the comments.
