How These People Are Burying Their Loved Ones Is Strange To Say The Least. Yes, That Is A Giant Shoe.

There is a tribe in Ghana that reacts to death in such a way that would shock Westerners. After death the Ga tribe, instead of mourning, actually celebrate. They believe death is just the beginning of a new and exciting journey for their loved ones, so they want to help the deceased pass on with style.

One way they do this is by creating decorative and elaborate coffins.

These delightful pieces are supposed to be representative of what they person did for a living.

Or possibly something they really liked.

Regardless of what the inspiration would be, every person’s coffin is designed specifically for them.

There’s no large, wooden boxes here.

The Ga people are truly remembered for what they were like.

And each coffin is built with considerable care, even though it would be going in the ground.

This tradition has become so popular, Ghana is littered with coffin vendors.

The coffins can cost up to $400, which is nearly equal to a year’s salary there.

The coffins are also a huge draw for the tourists.

Not many people would have seen a fish or chile coffin before…

Or one shaped like a lion.

Some people may think this is disrespectful, but I think it’s a unique way to honor someone’s life. Although, I hope these people had a say in what their coffin would be. I would hate to have a coffin themed around the time in 3rd grade I peed my pants.
