Nissan is using a tablet as an instrumental panel inside its new Terra SUV concept car, which it will showcase at the Paris Motor Show later this month.

The innovative concept car bears a striking resemblance to the Nissan Juke but uses three electric motors to drive the wheels and offers a hydrogen fuel cell stack to generate the electricity.

Keeping with the forward-thinking design and Nissan has equipped the car with a removable tablet. Drivers have to dock the tablet in the car so that the vehicle can be driven, and the slate then shows a speedometer and energy usage.

The driver can also switch the tablet view for infotainment purposes, although the tablet will still show important driver information, like the car’s speed, in a side-by-side display format.

Nissan is due to unveil the Terra at a press unveiling at the Paris Motor Show, which starts on Sept. 27.

Car manufacturers have increasingly turned to tablets or similar devices in recent months. Renault showed off a tablet GPS system at LeWeb conference in Paris last December, while both Kia and Cadillac have been including free tablets as an incentive for would-be customers to buy their cars.
