Guess How Many Gadgets Are in This Jacket

I brought a LOT of gear with me to Mobile World Congress 2013. How much gear? Just check out what I managed to fit inside my jacket.

For CES 2012, I bought myself the SeV women’s trench from Scottevest. The jacket came in handy running around the Las Vegas Convention Center and I figured it would be useful at MWC 2013.

I was right. Rather than having to pack a backpack or small suitcase just for electronics (which would have meant checking my main suitcase instead of taking it on the plane with me), I was able to carry the bulk of my gadgets on my body.

That was in addition to the stuff in my laptop bag (Nexus 10 tablet, MacBook Air, additional chargers and cables, headphones, external hard drive, USB thumb drives, business cards), which means that I was pretty connected for most of the trip.

So how did the coat hold up for international travel? Quite well. I’m probably going to need to tighten the threading on the inside button for the coat — and it’s weight distribution system wasn’t really designed to handle as much stuff as I put in the front pockets — but I managed to get around MWC without needing another bag and without worrying about having my gear lifted off my person.

Most sane people won’t need to carry two full-size tablets and four phones on them at all times, but if you’re looking for a trench coat that can double as a gadget carry-on, this definitely fits the bill.
