The ‘Faux Fur’ On Kohl’s Jackets Is Actually Coming From Real Animals

Kohl’s is in hot water after a product on its website, advertised as faux fur, was found be made with real fur from raccoon dogs.

The product, a men’s parka designed by label R&O, featured the fur as a decorative trim around the hood. The Humane Society purchased one of the jackets from the Kohl’s website to test it.

Lab results revealed the fur is indeed genuine and comes from the raccoon dog, a species of dog indigenous to Asia.

It’s unclear why The Humane Society chose to test this particular garment, but Kohl’s has been in trouble over faulty labeling before.

In 2013, the retailer was accused of selling handbags lined with real rabbit fur.

According to the Fur Products Labeling Act, retailers have to disclose the name and origin of the animal killed if genuine furs are used; failing to do so could result in fines and potential lawsuits.

According to a statement released by Kohl’s, fewer than 100 R&O men’s parkas were sold via the company’s website, and the parkas were not available in the store itself.

The company will be honoring any and all returns of the item, and claims to have been completely unaware of the fact the lining was made with real fur.

In compliance with the Fur Products Labeling Act, the remainder of the parkas have been since pulled from the site.
