The Super Bowl is known for its extravagant halftime shows. But it hasn’t always been so grand.
The following trip down down memory lane reveals how one of the biggest shows in America has evolved from marching bands to worldwide super stars — from true entertainment to, in some cases, thinly veiled commercials.
Things really pick up in 1991 with New Kids on the Block. Oh, and the Michael Jackson performance? Legendary. Only he could stand silent for like a minute on national television and get away with it.
