Coming out to parents can often be frightening.
But when Hayden Smith worked up the courage to tell his mom about his homosexuality, she was nothing but supportive. She thanked him for sharing his secret with her and being true to himself.
And then the tables turn and the teenager gets a pretty incredible surprise: Smith’s mother reveals that she, too, has experimented with same-sex relationships.
She tells her son that she had a girlfriend before the death of his father.
Although Smith seems pretty taken aback, it’s a beautiful moment between a mother and son. They’re sharing their truest selves, and family is always at its best when you can trust one another.
Smith is starting a long journey of self-discovery, but he has his understanding mother to lean on for support.
