8 Absurd Tech Knockoffs

1. PlayStation Vita Chinese Ripoff

Sony’s PlayStation Vita was released this past February, but a ripoff PS Vita has already been spotted in Taiwan. At $55, this “PSP MP5” costs a fraction of the PS Vita yet manages to offer some impressive features including 3,000 games, a browser, music and video playback, and TV-out capability. Even so, the PSP MP5 doesn’t come close to what the PS Vita offers; its rear touchpad and front touchscreen do nothing, and its operating system resembles Apple iOS more than it does the actual PS Vita. But the manufacturers certainly get an A for effort.
2. The Legendary PolyStation

When it comes to knockoff products, one of the most famous has to be the PolyStation. Not only did it look nearly identical to the original PlayStation, but it also boasted 10 million games ready to play (although many were listed multiple times with some variations). The top of the PolyStation opened to reveal a top-loading cartridge bay, whereas the PlayStation has a CD drive.

There have been many variations of the PolyStation made to resemble the redesigned PS One, PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation 3, and some even go so far as making the PolyStation experience handheld by adding an LCD screen.
3. Fake Android Store That’s Really a Fake Apple Store

Tecca featured a store located in China that looked like a fake Android store but — in a sadistic tech twist — is actually a fake Apple Store. We’re still not entirely sure why the Chinese decided to mask a fake Apple Store as a fake Google Android store, but we’re sure glad someone over there decided to create this shop.
4. Airbook, the MacBook Air Clone

Moving on from knockoff video game systems, we move on to laptops. And what better laptop to imitate than the one that is currently leading the pack, the MacBook Air? Everything about the Airbook oozes Apple’s MacBook Air, from its design, port locations, brushed aluminum finish, and even its charger!

The main difference between the Airbook and the MacBook Air is that under all of the Apple-inspired exterior, the Airbook is really a Windows PC, although it did run an Apple-themed Windows 7 operating system. It includes some acceptable specs, like an Intel Atom chip, a 13.3-inch LED display, and a 1.3-megapixel web cam. When it was on sale at K.O. Gadget, it sold for $499.
5. iPhone That’s Actually a Mini Air Conditioner

This next fake gadget is a tricky one. Even though it indeed isn’t an iPhone, it’s actually a working mini air conditioner. The $20 USB-powered mini air conditioner doesn’t offer much if you were hoping for an air conditioner/smartphone mash-up; its “LCD screen” is nothing more than a sticker, so poking at its icons would be completely useless. It can provide a cool breeze, has a working LED power indicator, and can be used with fragrances to make your air cooling experience that much more pleasurable.
6. Angry Birds Theme Park in China

Angry Birds fanatics have probably heard of the Angry Birds theme park that was built in China last year. Adding another layer of hilarity, the attraction can be found inside the American Zone of another theme park — despite the fact that the game’s developer, Rovio, is a Finnish company based in Espoo.
7. WeFound, the Knockoff Amazon Kindle

Amazon’s Kindle and Kindle Fire have been making a huge impact in the tablet world, especially for those of us who absolutely cannot travel without a good book to keep us company. That’s why it’s no surprise to anyone to see that China has manufactured a knockoff version of the Kindle called WeFound. The $539 WeFound F630 has a China Mobile 3G wireless module, an 800 x 600 pixel resolution, and 6-inch E Ink display and is said to have 14 days standby time.
8. iPhone 5? Please, China has the iPhone 6!

While the world waits and speculates the next iPhone, deemed the iPhone 5 for now, China seems to have surpassed the entire world by teasing leaked photos of the iPhone 6. Well, it’s actually called the “iPhono6,” but we’re sure anyone could become easy prey for this knockoff, since the resemblance between it and past iPhones is uncanny.

Apple might want to take a cue from the iPhono6’s design, since having a smaller screen and a bigger Apple logo on the front of the device looks way classier than having a larger screen. Also, using the Apple logo to house the device’s camera is certainly a nice touch.
