Shlomo Rechnitz was in an airport in Ireland when he came across 400 U.S. soldiers.
Shlomo was a Los Angeles businessman who was travelling from Ireland to Israel. He noticed how everyone who was eating in the airport were having hot and delicious meals from the airport restaurants. The soldiers, on the other hand, were all brown bagging it with cold, minimal lunches. It didnt make sense to Shlomo. Here were these brave men and women who risk their lives, and yet they werent eating nowhere near as well as everyone else. They deserved a hot and delicious meal like everyone else.
Shlomo decided to take action. He confronted the commander to first get permission. This was not just for a hot sandwich either. He wanted to give each soldier $50 to spend on a full fledged restaurant meal! Permission was granted.
Due to his enormous generosity, Shlomo was ask to comment on where this act of giving was coming from. Shlomo Rechnitz responded with the following:
you guys risk your lives to protect me and protect my family. If I get to go out and see a whole bunch of Army soldiers and Marines, its something that makes me proud. Im on my way to Israel now and you guys protect them too, and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
